Which AntiVirus is better?

If you want an antivirus that is nearly 100% effective, Avast and Avira are both great options. Not only will they protect from known malware, but they also use innovative techniques to keep you safe from undocumented threats. Plus, they include anti-ransomware and anti-phishing tools as well. However, the additional features differ greatly.

Avira is a low-maintenance, low-cost option. Most versions are free and the paid choice only costs $30. However, this is reflected in the features. The PC Tuneup tool deletes out-of-date or duplicate files and caches, payment protection, and a comparison tool are great, but their additional security features are minimal. There’s no firewall, and their customer support is limited to phone and email.

Avast provides a wider scope of price plans, ranging from free to over $100. You get a firewall, webcam security, and protected WiFi connection which keeps you safe over public WiFi hotspots. They also use sandboxing technology to ensure all files and applications are launched in a secure virtual environment. Their ‘Site Blocking’ feature is great if you have kids, as it can act as a limited parental control. Avast offers comprehensive online documentation and round-the-clock phone support for any issues.

Deciding between Avast and Avira depends on your budget. Avira is a capable but lower-cost antivirus program, but if you can invest in a more comprehensive security suite, we suggest Avast.
